FRANCE WILLING TO COMPROMISE ON NAVAL PARITY

PARIS, Nov. 3, (AP)—France will agree to a parity of naval tonnage with Italy in the Mediterranean, an official communication issued today said, on the condition that Italy allow the French to have a sufficient tonnage stationed elsewhere to protect communications with their colonies. It was calculated that France must have one hundred and forty thousand tons for eventualities in the Atlantic while one hundred thousand tons is needed to take care of her colonies.

This looks very encouraging in view of the fact that the world of nations is endeavoring to bring about a policy of disarmament so as to insure a world peace. However we must have peace even if France has to be allowed a sea full of ships to protect her very valuable connections.
