Full Text
A certain Colonel F. B. Pond, late member of the Legislature from Morgan County, is running on the Radical ticket for the office of Attorney General. He has been greatly distressed, and has had much to say in his speeches about the profligacy of the last Democratic Legislature. This, falling under the eye of the experienced editor of the Statesman, Colonel C. B. Flood, he goes quietly to work and empties the Pond of all that there was in it. It appears that Pond drew his five dollars per day for every day the session lasted, which included the days he was absent, as well as those when he was present. He drew pay for mileage for three several journeys home. He charged pay for Sundays and for the holidays, when the House was not in session, when he was at home eating his Christmas pudding and turkey. This was not all. The Pond was not only full, but run over. He was present at the November extra session for three days, and charged therefor, and was paid, thirty-six and 92-100 dollars. In all, this Radical reformer charged and obtained, for his Legislative services, $1,415 88—probably the largest bill that was rendered by any member. We are rather under the impression that the Pond will not like the Flood that has swept away his embankments.—Enquirer.
