Full Text

If we may credit some Advices from France, they are doing all in their Power to establish their Colonies in America, upon a firm Foundation, and expect 60 or 70,000 Inhabitants from Canada to settle at New-Orleans, and on the West Side (which is the most fruitful) of the Mississippi. If we are not mistaken, Proposals were offered at the End of the War in 1748, for Families from hence to settle in Nova-Scotia in a shorter Period than has now elapsed since the Conclusion of the last War; and as the Climate and Soil of the Banks of the Mississippi are much preferable to Nova-Scotia, if proper Encouragement was held out, there is little Reason to doubt our being as strong in those parts as our Rivals.
