FISH-KILL. May 16.

Extract of a letter of the 6th Instant:

I have with great attention read the New-York news-papers, from the first to the 4th inclusive; and after all the reports I have heard since the arrival of the Duke of Cumberland packet, I was much disappointed not to find any one resolve in favour of the independency of North America: on the contrary, every attempt to obtain any resolve declaratory of it, has been in vain, and rendered futile by a majority of 29 against it.

You may depend upon it, the whole of this talk of their being willing to acknowledge our independence, is a political manoeuvre; a tub thrown out to the whale to amuse North-America, While the British send the whole of the force they can spare to Secure their remaining islands in the West-Indies, till the autumnal equinox approaches; and then you will find part of that force will join the forces in North-America, and then they will take off the mask; unless by vigorous exertions we extirpate them from the continent before that period arrives.
