Gen. Schwan's Troops Are Welcomed to Mayaguez.

Ponce, Porto Rico, Aug. 14. - Stirring scenes were witnessed when the American troops, under command of Gen. Schwan, marched into Mayaguez and raised the national colors over another important part of the island. Gen. Schwan and his men were welcomed with wild enthusiasm by the residents of the place. The Spanish troops, after their engagement with Gen. Schwan's advance guard in the morning, retreated from Mayaguez, permitting our troops to take peaceful possession. As soon as the Spanish flag had been lowered and the Stars and Stripes raised over the city, Gen. Schwan took possession of the customs house, opened the port and set the place in order.
