FRANKFORT, Ky., Aug. 3. (U.P.) - With state troops guarding mountain polls in Harlan county, Kentuckians voted today in one of the most important primary elections in the state's history. Early reports were that the vote was normal. No violence was reported despite bitter feeling over the race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Trouble appeared imminent, however, in "bloody" Harlan county when 20 precinct voting stations failed to open. Precinct leaders refused to open the voting places because of the presence of more than 700 national guardsmen who were stationed throughout the county after their arrival from Frankfort and Lexington last night.
