Gen. Labadoyere. I come again to the motion that I made this morning. If Napoleon the I. is not declared Emperor of the French, the abdication of his father is a nullity. What! Men who have sworn fidelity to the Constitution of the Empire—men who owe everything to Napoleon—men who were yesterday on their knees before him—persevere to recognize his son!! What do they hope from our enemies? A well! If the Emperor experiences this outrageous refusal, he ought to draw his sword anew. He will hear, I know, abandoned again by those Generals whom he has loaded with honors and riches, and who have paid him by the most black ingratitude.—But he will be followed by other Generals, who will be faithful—and by thousands of brave men. Let the vile turncoats be arraigned before the Legislature, judged and punished in a manner to terrify those who would desert our colors. Let their names be delivered to infamy. Let their families be proscribed. Let their houses be torn down. And never let any of them afterwards put their feet on the French territory.
Prince of Essling, (Massena,) Young man, you forget yourself.
M. Alex. Lameth. He thinks he is yet with the Body Guard.

General Labadoyere renewed his motion to declare Napoleon I Emperor of the French, arguing that failure to do so nullifies his abdication and criticizing peers for recognizing his son instead. He accused them of ingratitude and hoping for favors from enemies, urging the Emperor to fight on with faithful followers and calling for harsh punishment of deserters, including infamy, proscription, and destruction of their homes. Prince of Essling (Massena) rebuked him for forgetting himself, and M. Alex. Lameth remarked that he thinks he is still with the Body Guard.
