WASHINGTON—The Philip Murray Memorial Foundation is ready to function as "a living and constructive tribute to one of the great Americans and one of the great labor leaders of the 20th Century."
The announcement came from Emil Rieve, president CIO Textile Workers, who is chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
Former President Harry S. Truman heads a 13-man public advisory board to guide the Foundation's activities. It will engage in charitable, educational and scientific work to commemorate Phil Murray.
Rieve hopes the world will view the Foundation as "an instrument for the promotion of liberty, justice and the welfare of all mankind."
The Foundation's certificate of incorporation clearly states an aversion to political participation: "It shall not be within the purposes or powers of the corporation to carry on propaganda, or otherwise to attempt to influence legislation, either as part of its purposes or objects, or as a means of furthering any of its purposes or objects."
