PROTEST MEET
(Continued from page 1)
Among the speakers who voiced protests at the meeting were prominent local educators and civic leaders, as well as some from other cities of Michigan. They included Supt. Frank Cody, of the Detroit School system; Mr. Hood, of the Board of Education; Mr. Gorman, of Lansing; Mrs. Mary Farnsworth, president of the Michigan Teachers' association; Mrs. Hancock, Mrs. Henry Hosner and Mrs. Comfort teachers; Frank X. Martel of the AFL; Rev. John Martin, of the Detroit Citizens committee; and S. F. Grigsby, chairman of the Detroit Civic Rights committee.
In his talk, Mr. Grigsby said: "The Detroit Police department has been allotted adequate appropriations for their department, so why not give the Board of Education what they need. This would eliminate necessity for providing so much money to combat crime. There are many local areas in which improved educational facilities are urgently needed. I plead with you to appropriate sufficient funds for these educational needs, and you will be remembered in September."
