Full Text

Special School Tax.

At our Town election, which is to take place on Monday, June 3d, the voters of Gold Hill will also deposit a ballot, in a separate box, for the levying of a special school-tax of fifteen cents on the hundred dollars—or $1 50 on the thousand—to raise $2,500, to keep the public schools of this District in operation during the Summer season—and which said tax is to be levied upon, and collected on all taxable property within the District. Virginia, American City, and Flowery Districts have all voted affirmatively on this question—and we have reason to hope that the people of Gold Hill will go and do likewise. The tax is but a small sum for each property-holder; and it will not do to let our public schools lie idle. It would be highly detrimental to the character of our Town; and very damaging to our school children to have them running idle about the streets.
