SINGULAR SUICIDE NEAR BOSTON.

[From the Boston Post, June 27.]

A lady, while passing through the groves of Woodlawn Cemetery, Friday afternoon, near the North Chelsea line, came suddenly upon the dead body of a well dressed man, from whose head was flowing a stream of blood mixed with brains. The deceased appeared about seventy years of age, and was well dressed. A letter was on his knee directed to Andrew John Mallon, Rutland, Vt. The letter showed that the suicide was Carl H. Mallon; that he had been living with his son at Hyde Park, and that he had left there on Thursday, and had stopped during the night at the United States Hotel, in Boston. In the letter he refers to a garden he had laid out, and to the chickens of his son, which had devastated it by their scratching. This was one of his great troubles, while another was "Annie," whom he feared had "talked against him behind his back, although she was all smiles to his face." He was, therefore, tired of life, and was going to meet his beloved wife, who died twenty-five years ago. The sons of the deceased—one of whom lives at Hyde Park, and another at Medford—state that their father had a paralytic fit some time ago, and, since then, his mind has been affected. It is a curious fact that the suicide chose for the fulfillment of the deed his own burial lot in the cemetery. Mallon leaves his clothing and watch to his children, and tells them that the world will say he was insane, but they must not believe it, as he is only tired of life; and concludes by hoping that they will be happier than he had been.
