We invite the attention of the Democrats of this parish to the call for a parish convention to assemble at Trenton on the 15th of June, for the purpose of naming delegates to the Democratic State Convention. It is also stated that delegates will be chosen for the Congressional and Senatorial conventions, and that a parish Executive Committee is to be selected.
A feature in this call attracts our especial attention, and that is, that delegates to the State Convention are to be selected with reference to the expediency of calling a Constitutional Convention. We are glad to see this issue brought fairly and squarely before Democrats. We want to see it settled, once and for all, whether, or not, we are to live under a Radical Constitution riveted upon us, and whether the Democrats of Ouachita parish will yield willing submission to the old yoke of Radicalism. There is, we know, wisdom in forbearance, but, we know also, that there is cowardice in submission when resistance is possible. It is not time now to say where the responsibility rests for a failure to redeem the whites - the Democrats - of Louisiana; but it is time for Democrats to assert their superiority and their intelligence, if they have it.
