N. Y. POLICE OFFICER HERE
Come for Three Young Men Accused
of Stealing Auto.

Officer James F. Fitzgerald of New York arrived here this morning for the purpose of returning to that city the three young men who were arrested Sunday on the charge of stealing an automobile belonging to Dr. M. A. Schlenker, a New York physician.

When the officer called at the jail and gave the three suspects the "once over" he concluded that he did not care to undertake the job alone and wired to headquarters for another officer.

The trio, neither one of whom is 20 years old and who gave their names as Harry Macauley, John McGrath and William Harrison were given a hearing in municipal court Monday forenoon and were held for further hearing on Thursday under bonds of $1000 each. The car with which they are charged with stealing was taken while standing on the street in New York Saturday afternoon.

Monday afternoon State's Attorney Collins M. Graves communicated with Dr. Schlenker of 161 West 36th street by telephone and was informed that a representative of the company that carried the insurance on the car would be in Bennington tomorrow and that all expenses incurred in recovering the property would be settled.
