FROM FRANCE.
The schooner Mary, Capt. Watkins, arrived yesterday from Bordeaux;--passage 95 days. Dr. Timothy Green came passenger in her.
From the length of the passage political news cannot be expected. We have been favored with files of Paris papers to 10th Frimaire, about the first of Dec. and Bordeaux Commercial Advertisers to 5th Dec. They contain little on subjects worthy observation.
By this arrival we learn--That notwithstanding the French Directory enforces all its mandates with violence, and public voice is obliged to take any pitch given it, the general opinion is opposed to an open war with the United States';--while, at the same time, all descriptions of subjects are very willing to share the American property which daily arrives at Bordeaux; and which is readily pronounced bon prize. To the disgrace of the American name, many of our unworthy countrymen, are partakers in this nefarious brigandage. Amongst them we have heard of a Randall a Savage, &c. whose conduct would appear as black as Erebus, if even placed in contact with the most atrocious enormities of the licensed plunderers of the coast of Barbary.
A half column of the Paris "Gazette Nationale," is occupied in publishing the account of the erection of a pitiful Liberty Pole, in the town of Wallingsford, in Vermont!
