Full Text

For several days past, a man of genteel address, giving his name as Harvey Benson and representing himself as a drover from the West, has been floating about New York and cutting quite a swell, at times showing considerable sums of money, and talking largely of his fine horses at Bull's Head Stables. It appears now that Mr. Benson was not exactly—what he pretended to be, as the police have been on the alert for some days, he being wanted for passing counterfeit or altered notes, purporting to be genuine issues of the Jewett City Bank, Connecticut. One of these altered from a two dollar to a twenty dollar, and genteelly done, was passed to Mr. Edmond Story, in payment for drinks.—
Officer Bogart of the 10th Ward police, succeeded in arresting him. He was taken before Justice Wood, and complaint was made against him, on which he was committed for further examination.
