Rabbi Nathan A. Barack announced his resignation recently as spiritual leader of Beth El Congregation—a post which he had held for 10 years.
Rabbi Barack had been re-elected by the congregation for another three-year term. He resigned following this action because, as he explained in the congregation bulletin, "I found that the conditions necessary for my being an effective rabbi would not be created as I had asked."
"I hope that all who are truly interested in Judaism will work wholeheartedly and unitedly for the synagogue," the rabbi declared.
He said he had no immediate plans for the future. His separation from the synagogue takes effect Sept. 1.
New Rabbi Sought
Morris Meckler, president of the congregation, said procedure to obtain a new rabbi will be started soon. Hebrew theological schools will be apprised of the Phoenix vacancy and one or two applicants for the post will be brought here to appear before the congregation, Meckler said. It is expected that the new rabbi will be appointed by next fall.
Rabbi Barack served as a chaplain in World War II, on leave from his congregation for about two years. He was in Italy and held the rank of captain.
