Succeeding Walstein G. Smith, territorial treasurer since the office was first established in 1913, Oscar G. Olson took office in the capital city April 1st.
He was elected to the post in the territorial elections last fall as the democratic candidate.
Due to a question regarding the legality of changing the expiration date of Smith's term, the transfer of office was delayed from January 1. as had been provided by the territorial legislature of 1933.
The outgoing office holder recently was elected vice president of the First National bank of Juneau.
While Olson has stipulated that no immediate changes in treasurer's office personnel are to take place, he has named Walter P. Sharpe of Ketchikan to succeed E. M. Polley as tax collector and Tom Martinsen of Cordova as the chief clerk, succeeding C. E. Harland who has held the post for the past 20 years.
Both Sharpe and Martinsen are in Juneau at the present time, familiarizing themselves with their new offices.
