Full Text
The democratic State convention, which met in Columbus last Thursday, made the following nominations: for Governor, R. P. Ranney; Lieut. Governor, W. H. Safford; Supreme Judge, J. C. Whitney; Auditor, Q. Volney Dorsey; Secretary of State, Wm. Bushnell; Treasurer, Wm. Reinhardt; Board of Public Works, Jos. Tomlinson; School Commissioner, Chas. N. Allen. Payne declined re-nomination for Governor, and Ranney received the position by acclamation. There was an evident coldness, like a death-chill, running through all the proceedings of the convention, which plainly showed that the leaders had seen the "hand writing on the wall," and had it interpreted unto them. Pugh, Payne, and Vallandigham addressed the convention.
