Most Eminent and most Reverend Lord.
HIS Majesty, using the just, royal, and supreme power which by all kinds of right he possesses, and to preserve his subjects from scandals prejudicial to the public tranquillity of his Kingdoms, has commanded me to inform your Eminency, that, immediately upon the presentation of this letter, your Eminency is to depart from this city to the other side of Tagus, and from thence to go out of the Kingdom, by the direct road, within the precise time of four days.
For the decent conveyance of your Eminency, you will find the Royal Barges ready on the shore fronting the house of your Eminency's residence.
And that your Eminency may enter therein and pursue your voyage and journey without the least fear of insults contrary to the protection which his Majesty wills always, in all cases, should be found in his dominions by that immunity of character, with which your Eminency is invested, he at the same time commanded, that a splendid and competent military escort do accompany your Eminency to the frontier of this Kingdom.
I remain to serve your Eminency with the greatest obsequiousness. God preserve your Eminency for many years. Your Eminency's most obsequious servant,
Don Lewis da Cunha.
