Full Text

Jefferson Davis.

The Richmond, Va., Examiner, of the 24th, says: "It is considered probable that Mr. Davis will soon be released on parole. Several surgeons, especially commissioned for that purpose have recently examined the physical condition of the prisoner, and upon their report the action of the President depends. It is well known that Mr. Davis is in exceedingly wretched health, declining slowly, yet gradually and surely to the grave, and it is quite impossible that any surgeon, not in fetters, can do otherwise than testify to the fact. The release of Mr. Davis will give joy to millions, will relieve him of unjust and murderous hand-cuffs, and will be fitting sequence of the petition of General Lee for the restoration of peace."
