National Advisory Education Committee Back Into Operation

WASHINGTON, D. C. -(SNS)- The United States Office of Education has revived the National Advisory Committee on the Education of Negroes.

The action came upon the recommendation of R.I. Grigsby, acting commissioner of education.

Several prominent Georgians will serve on the Committee. Among them are Robert L. Cousins, director of the division of Negro Education of Georgia, Mrs. Maenelle Dempsey, consultant, Georgia Negro elementary schools, and Dr. Nathaniel P. Tillman, professor of English, Morehouse College.

Other leading educators on the committee are: Dr. H.B. Crouch, Tennessee A. & I. State college, Dr. J.C. Dixon, vice-president and executive director, Southern Education foundation, Dr. Bertram W. Doyle, Louisville Municipal college; S.E. Duncan, state supervisor in Negro high schools of North Carolina; L.H. Foster Jr. and Dr. F.D. Patterson, both of Tuskegee institute; Carol W. Hayes, supervisor of Negro schools, Birmingham; Dr. H. Council Trenholm, president, Alabama State Teachers college; D.E. Williams, Florida department of education; Mrs. Mary McLeod Bethune, president-emeritus, Bethune-Cookman college; William M. Cooper, Hampton institute; Dean George W. Reeves, Prairie View A. and M. college, and Mrs. Ethlynne Thomas, Shaw university.
