"Utility of Discussion. There has been agitated for some weeks past, in the columns of the Christian Enquirer, of New York, a very polite discussion between Mr. Henry James and the Editor of that paper, which wants only one ingredient to make it one of the most interesting now carried on. The feature we allude to is intelligibility. We are gradually borne along upon a current of smooth, decorous words, from one stopping-place to another, seeming to have now and then a sort of glimpse of the shore. But it is a deception, after all. The reader is in fact far out of soundings, and nothing is in sight but a heavy bank of fog on every side. It is not certain that if any thing were visible it would be worth seeing; but we are sure every reader of that excellent journal will be glad to be relieved from the necessity of straining his eyes 'to see what is not to be seen.' This is now happily accomplished, and the debate is at length closed, without, however, coming to any conclusion."
