July 20. His Majesty has received a letter from Mr. de Calonne, nearly in the following terms :

"The persecutions I have suffered, the ignominy I am branded with, the great disgust they have conceived against my person, and above all the extreme grief I felt to see myself deprived of your Majesty's favor and protection, have made me banish myself from my country ; and when your Majesty receives this letter, I shall be out of your dominions. I retire into a country where I can in safety, labour towards my justification."
