HAVANA, Dec. 15.

Important information To Trade.

We have been assured as a positive fact,
that in the port of New York a French Agent
is fitting out a ship of 36 guns. under
the pretence of employing her in a commerce
permitted under the American flag. but that
his true purpose is to cruise against our
merchant vessels, and at the same time to
undertake an expedition against some point
of our possessions in America. What gives
room for this suspicion is, that the ship is to
be manned, as is said, with 3 or 400 French
selected from among those, who have been
expelled from our American possessions;
and it is added that she will leave the port
without arming. but with artillery, arms,
ammunition and the necessary provisions in
her hold, and will arm herself at sea or in
any other convenient place.

We have also been assured that they have
purchased at the same port two very fast
sailing brigs of war One of them is the
brig Georgian with ports for 20 guns, and
which already has her ballast aboard. with
a small crew, and ready to sail immediately.
The other is called the Camille. with
the same number of ports: and it is said,
that the owners of these vessels intend to
elude the custom house regulations. and by
going out in ballast proceed whither they
please. It is probable, that the fitting out
of these brigs has some connection with that
ship: and that the three vessels will meet
at some point in order afterwards to act in
concert.
