LABOR NOT TAKEN FOR RIDE

Preposterous statements are now being made about the San Francisco general strike. It is being asserted that communists took San Francisco labor for a ride and that labor made no effective resistance. Nothing could be farther from the truth. San Francisco labor decided on the strike by vote of its membership and called it off by vote of its representatives.

The charge that San Francisco labor's action was due to "red" domination seems part of a plan to spread the impression that labor had no grievance. Organized workers do not strike because some "agitator" urges a walkout. Labor knows the cost of strikes and does not call one except as a last resort to secure justice.

The pent-up resentment of years against exploitation was expressed by the San Francisco strike. Labor felt that it had just grievance that imperatively demanded redress. Anti-labor employers would like to have this important fact forgotten or ignored, hence they welcome and spread the suggestion that "red" agitation was responsible for the walkout.
