Full Text

The Dayton Empire says: "Now, this is what we call 'talking right out,' and it sounds so strange that we quote it for the benefit of the curious. The Whig papers of the north do not give vent to their feelings in this way, the fact is, the 'know-nothing' organization is an ally of Whiggery, north of the "Mason and Dixon line"—an 'omnium gatherum' of the rag-tag and bob-tail of the four quarters of five pointsdom; and the Whig is very well aware that Southern whiggery can gain nothing by an alliance with the throat-cutting, church burning, negro-sympathising, material which goes to make up the ring-leaders of the new concern. The South would loose by such an alliance—the North will gain nothing but agitation, and we have plenty of that without this new nuisance. It will soon have its run, and like Nativeism, "die about the time the whigs and abolitionists go down into another four years retirement."

The Dayton Empire comments on the Whig papers of the north not expressing feelings openly, notes that the know-nothing organization is an ally of Whiggery north of the Mason and Dixon line, describes it as an omnium gatherum of the rag-tag and bob-tail of the four quarters of five pointsdom, states that Southern whiggery can gain nothing by alliance with the throat-cutting, church burning, negro-sympathising material of the ring-leaders, argues the South would lose by such alliance, the North gains nothing but agitation which it already has plenty of without this new nuisance, and predicts it will soon have its run and die like Nativeism about the time the whigs and abolitionists go into another four years retirement.
