WON'T DISCUSS DIVORCE RUMOR
Mrs. A. J. Drexel Has Separated From
Her Husband.
Philadelphia, May 29.- Rumors of
application for divorce by Mrs. An-
thony J. Drexel, wife of the financier,
current for several weeks, are still
unconfirmed.
Since her arrival in Philadelphia
Mrs. Drexel has been living in retire-
ment, refusing to discuss the report-
ed separation from her husband, even
with her closest friends.
Friends of the Drexels are respon-
sible for the story that Mrs. Drexel
came to America for the express pur-
pose of consulting her private attor-
ey, and say that she will return to
London June 3.
A dispatch from Baltimore,
where
the wife of the Philadelphia million-
aire is staying with friends, reads as
follows:
"Mrs. A. J. Drexel is in retirement in
Baltimore as the guest of Mr. and
Mrs. W. Cabell Bruce. Mrs. Bruce is
a school girl intimate of Mrs. Drexel,
who as Miss Margarita Armstrong
was one of the belles of Baltimore.
"The intimacy has since been kept
up and Mrs. Drexel's flight to this city
is ascribed to her desire to avoid no-
toriety arising from the report of her
proposed divorce suit.
"Mr. Bruce, who was formerly city
solicitor, and is now counsel to the
public service commission, is acting
as advisor to Mrs. Drexel and standing
as a buttress against interviewers.
"Mr. Bruce was courtesy itself, but
would neither deny nor affirm the re-
port of the intended suit or make any
statement whatever. He admitted that
Mrs. Drexel had seen the report, but
said she desired to make no state-
ment."
