SHIPWRECK

A dreadful shipwreck occurred on Long Island, in the gale of Sunday night. A gentleman arrived in town last evening, from Babylon, who states that parts of the wreck of an apparently old ship, came ashore near Fire Island Inlet, on Monday morning, with parts of the cargo, such as pieces of crates and coal. The bodies of ten men, habited as seamen, had also drifted ashore, and another dead body was seen in the surf. From all the description we could obtain, it is much feared the above wreck was the ship Savannah, Capt. Coles, which sailed from Liverpool for this port on the 18th of September, and was last seen on Sunday, by the British ship James, which arrived here on Wednesday.
