FARMER ACCIDENTALLY SHOT

Edward Morrisey of Orange Was About to Shoot at Crows.

Edward Morrisey, a farmer who lives on the line of the New York road about two miles from Orange Center, accidentally shot himself about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon and was brought to the New Haven hospital, where it was thought last night that his recovery was extremely doubtful. Mr. Morrisey has some cherry trees not far from his house, and the crows have been picking the cherries. Yesterday he decided to try a shot at the birds which were taking his cherries, and placing his shotgun in a wagon, in which were also some bags of feed which he wished to take to a neighboring farmer, he drove by the cherry trees. Seeing some crows in the trees he stopped his team and reached for the shotgun. Grasping it by the barrel he pulled the gun towards him. As he did so the trigger of the gun caught in one of the bags and exploded the charge in the gun. The charge of shot struck Mr. Morrisey in the upper right side of the abdomen and came out about the center of the front of the abdomen. He called for help and was heard by his brother, who happened to be near by. The brother carried him to the house and came at once to this city for the New Haven hospital ambulance.
