(Capital News Special Service)

Caldwell Sept. 24.—After successfully eluding the officers since Sept. 14, B. B. Williams and his three sons, R. J. Williams, F. B. Williams and George Williams, were arrested Saturday in Jordan Valley and were brought to Caldwell yesterday and taken to Vale on the afternoon train to answer the charge of taking mortgaged property out of the state, and also on the charge of larceny by a bailee, both crimes being a penitentiary offense in Oregon. When arrested the men were bound for Goldfield and had abandoned the regular route, going 75 miles out of their way via Ontario and Caldwell and on to Jordan Valley. In that way they evaded the officers, who were after them a day or two after they broke camp near Vale.

The men had been engaged during the summer freighting for the Oregon Short Line, hauling supplies from Vale to the railroad construction camp in the Malheur canyon. They had purchased three new steel wagons and two sets of harness from the Studebaker agent at Vale, paying $25 down, but failed to make any further payment. From T. C. Wells they purchased seven head of horses, giving him a mortgage on them for the remainder of the bill due him after making the first payment, and on the night of their departure for Goldfield purchased a ton of hay from Wells, which they hauled to their camp to avoid suspicion, and also a ton of oats from Fred Vogue, which they took with them but did not pay for the same. Early that night they left the Vale territory and made a hard night's drive and their absence was not discovered until late next day, when warrants for their arrest were sworn out and officers started on their trail, which resulted in their capture Saturday evening.
