Graduate Goes After Job with New Idea; Gets Pick of Many Offers

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 6

Eighty-one identical notes, sealed in 81 bottles and cast "adrift on the swiftly flowing tides of the United States mail," have landed a job for John A. West, Jr., of Chicago, who was graduated today from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Addressed to advertising firms throughout the country, West's appeal read:

"Stranded on an island in Cambridge, Mass. A college graduate to be in June. Will work like hell for passage into port. Gold stored here with me-(training in arts sciences, business, including marketing and advertising. Past experience in newspaper office, summer theatre, steel mill. Best references). You're getting ahead and I'm going your way. Have you room in hold for a man who can prove he's worth his salt?"

West received replies from 75 per cent of his bottled appeals. From them he selected a Philadelphia advertising firm with whom he will start work in a few weeks.
