Full Text

MR. MCDUFFIE.
In answer to a letter addressed to this gentleman by his constituents at Abbeville, he declines being a candidate for Congress, at the ensuing election, on account of ill health, and states that if his health shou'd not improve in the next two months, he will be compelled to resign his seat for the unexpired term for which he has been elected.
He mustered strength enough upon the occasion to reiterate his anathemas against the administration, and to inform the committee that during the time he has represented the District in Congress, he has never considered what would or would not be popular, but has been exclusively governed and controlled by the dictates of his own judgment. Supposing this to be his sentiment, we need not be surprised at the versatility of his course, or the bitterness with which he has denounced the administration and those who approve of its measures.
