COLD WAVE IS WIDESPREAD IN THE NORTHWEST

Temperature Falls to 18 Below in Bismarck, Colder Other Places 42 BELOW IN CANADA

60-Mile Wind Accompanies The Cold Wave Which Hit Helena, Montana

IN CALIFORNIA

San Francisco, Dec. 16. - A cold wave which swept over the Northwestern states yesterday and last night is bringing snow and lower temperatures into California. Low temperatures and rain are predicted for an area reaching to the Mexican border.

The weather forecasters made good their predictions of cold weather today. It was 18 below in Bismarck at 7 a. m. according to the government thermometer; it was 18 below in Fargo at the same time and 22 below zero in Williston.

Many cities in the Northwest reported below zero temperatures, including: Sheridan, Wyoming, -16; Winnipeg, -24; Spokane, Washington, -2; Rapid City, South Dakota, -10; Prince Albert, Canada, -40; Helena, Montana, -28; Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, -42.

Continued cold tonight and Wednesday is today's forecast.
19 BELOW AT GRAND FORKS

Grand Forks, Dec. 16. - The temperature dropped to 19 below zero at 7 o'clock this morning, a drop of 33 degrees during the last 24 hours.

Light snow which had fallen during the last few days was drifted to some extent. Trains arriving in the city were late last night. There had been no reports of suffering from the cold.
REACHES GREAT LAKES

Chicago, Dec. 16. -- The weather bureau has issued this warning Northwest storm warnings are displayed on Lakes Michigan and Superior.

60-MILE WIND

Helena, Mont., Dec. 16. -- A cold wave, borne on the crest of a 60-mile wind, descended on western Montana last night, sending the temperature far below zero.
