Maria Monk's Disclosures - At a meeting of a number of gentlemen called for the purpose, in New York, the subject of Maria Monk's disclosures was considered, and a series of temperate resolutions adopted expressive of their opinion that the truth or falsehood of her statements ought as far as possible, to be investigated and ascertained, and that therefore the Hotel Dieu Nunnery of Montreal, where she states that she was, ought to be visited and examined by a committee of disinterested persons; and they also appoint a committee of four persons, namely, George Hall, Esq. late Mayor of Brooklyn, Professor S. F. B. Morse, David Wessen Esq., and the Rev. J. J. Slocum, with power to add to their number either in the U. States, or Canada, to accompany Maria Monk to the Nunnery to examine the premises. The proceedings of the meeting are to be transmitted to the King of England, to the Gov of Canada, and to the Romish Bishop of Montreal.
