CESSION OF THE FLORIDAS.

The southern papers for a long time past have abounded in speculations and conjectures, in regard to the cession of Florida by Spain to the United States. It has even been confidently affirmed, that negotiations on the subject were pending between the two governments; and that the result would probably be communicated at the ensuing session of Congress. The last Intelligencer, however, says "So far from any treaty or compact having been concluded, for the cession of Florida by Spain to the United States, we are under the impression, that no official communications have passed between the two governments on the subject."--The authority of the Intelligencer, on this subject, is supposed to be unquestionable; and will terminate, it is hoped, the labours of sage prophets and speculatists.
