Full Text

A Half Centenarian.—On Saturday last, the venerable General J. Watts de Peyster, of New York, gave the annual breakfast to the indestructible veteran, Captain Lahrbush, on the 107th anniversary of their concurrent birth-day. This is the sixtieth of the series begun when each had attained the age of 101. The dozen guests were, with few exceptions, generals of high distinction, yet one of the oldest of these was a baby when Captain Lahrbush was a sexagenarian, and not one had entered the service when he had retired under the burden of his seventy years. The guests all took their leave, says the Tribune, pledging the gay and hearty old gentleman to be present a year hence, and especially insisting that he should keep his health and strength to take part in the centennial anniversary of his young friend, the American Union.
