DR. WITTEN
So far as reports go Dr. J. W. Witten will go to the legislature again without opposition, and such an arrangement will be satisfactory to a large majority of the people whom he has represented for the past two terms. Dr. Witten has endeavored to represent all the people, giving special consideration to the forgotten man. He has, and will, sponsor any legislation that has for its object the betterment of conditions of the people. He favors more liberal consideration of institutions for public education, thinks tuition should be abolished entirely and every child in the Commonwealth given opportunity for qualifying him or herself for citizenship. The next legislature will be asked to make additional provision for public education, and a demand will be made that relief be granted incorporated towns which have been embarrassed financially by being forced to make appropriations for the high schools in order that terms of sufficient duration could be maintained for completing the courses. The session of 1933-34 will be a most important one in this respect, as well as in respect to the road program. The Southwest will be the loser if a diversion of road funds is made to schools, such a movement having been started in the other end of the State at the last session-that is, the road program will be disrupted, but the schools might be benefited. Which is the most important?
Dr. Witten is familiar with legislative procedure and knows well the inner workings of the committees and will take care of his constituents to the very best of his ability.
