Full Text

THE RALLY.—Notwithstanding the great inclemency of the weather on Saturday evening, a goodly number of Invincibles from Gold Hill and Virginia paraded with lanterns, music, etc., and marched to Piper's Opera House to hear Governor Booth of California and William Woodburn of Virginia, speak on the political issues of the day. The building was densely crowded, and we noticed quite a number of good looking ladies present. Governor Booth's address was one of the best Republican speeches we have listened to for many a day. He is a finished, gentlemanly orator, and was much and deservedly applauded. The speech of William Woodburn was also a very acceptable one, well delivered, and full of sound sense and felicitous illustration. The Glee Club sang some capital campaign songs. That one of "Good Bye Horace G." is exceedingly hard to beat, and brought down the house. The National Guard Band also furnished some most excellent music. Taken altogether, it was the best meeting of the campaign thus far.
