Full Text

Dublin, Nov. 4. On Wednesday Evening, the youthful Senators of our University met in full Assembly: the Consuls, preceded by 12 Lictors bearing Axes and Fasces, in the old Roman Manner. Mr. Parnell, Chief Consul, made there a noble Speech, in a truly Roman Style, to which Mr. Chinery replied in most elegant Latin. Their Senatus Consulta, or Laws to which Mr. Day wrote an excellent Prologue, were full of Wit and the keenest Satyr against Freshmen, Scots, and Gauls: The Consuls Chairs, rich with Lace and Fringe of the most curious Workmanship, were sent as a Present to the Rev. Mr. J. Forster; and what deserves the highest Praises, they decreed, that the Money, which, on like Occasions, us'd to be lavish'd on a Public Entertainment, Should be laid out in buying Lamps to be hung up before the Hall, and other Public Places in that College; they decreed also two large Globes for Mr. Forster's Building in the Quadrangle.
