If no candidate is successful to the Radicals for either the position of Governor or Vice President, it will be no fault of the Connecticut Radicals. Through the press and public meetings the Radicals have spoken their minds and nominated their men. Buckingham, Trowbridge, Hawley and Parker are some of the few who are to be Governor of this Commonwealth next spring, according to Radical contemplation. Up to within a week Parker's chances have been excellent. It was more than possible—it was highly probable he would get the nomination. Since then Parker has received a mortal thrust, and the Jeffersonian administers it in the nomination of Hon. Roger Averill, of Danbury. To the many skeptical persons we would wish to say that a movement on the part of the Jeffersonian has its importance, for the Jeffersonian is one of the four leading papers in this State which pick up a living in Fairfield county. If memory serves us right the Jeffersonian has before made an attempt to hoist Mr. Averill into this position. Probably the ill-success of an earlier effort may be attributed to the fact that its author was not then generally recognized as one of the leading journals in the Radical light. If so, we look with anxiety to the action of the Convention. As for ourselves, if our humble opinion is of any value, we would willingly consent to see Mr. Averill nominated as the head of the Republican ticket for 1868. In looking over the list of names presented we can find none it would suit us better to have nominated than Mr. Averill, and we hope the convention will listen respectfully and kindly to the suggestions of one of the leading papers of the State, and of a paper published in the same town with the leading paper aforesaid.
