WHAT A STENOGRAPHER CAN DO.
"The Possibilities of Stenography" is the title of an inspiring article for girls in the New Idea Woman's Magazine for December. The writer speaks of this work as being "splendidly elastic," holding out a prospect to young girls, and to girls not so young, of mounting step by step from junior positions to secretaryships, managerships, editorships and the higher professions. She tells of the young women whose stenography has taken them traveling to the four quarters of the globe or "riding through college on a typewriter." "Knowledge of stenography," she says, in closing, "stands to a girl somewhat as a well-invested sum of money does to the investor. She can use the interest at any time to help her over a difficult situation. When she needs a few dollars extra, she can draw on it, even after the necessity of earning her daily bread as a stenographer has been eliminated. In short, if there is any one calling today followed by women that offers as many chances for getting along as does stenography, close thinking on the subject for several days has failed to discover it."
