Saturday last, 16th inst., was return day. Its fruits are about Nine Hundred Writs. The suing has been wholesale and pell-mell. People have been exhorted to 'wait,' to 'hold on,' to 'forbear' - and all that sort of thing; but it is very clear that they will do nothing of the kind. Pity our Legislature had not done as other Legislatures have! A very large number of these Writs are Summary Processes, and a very large number are suits by administrators, &c. The state of affairs in this respect is rather gloomy.
The question which has so vexed the public mind for two years past remains still unanswered. What's to be done?
Edgefield Advertiser.
That's the question; Why we will go under, or up, that is all. Next week we will be able to tell the fruits here, and judging from the unusual activity round law range, the immense number of blanks called for -- Sum Bro's, Copy Writs and Sci Fa's, the slaughter will be immense, terrible. In many cases the pound of flesh is demanded and unless some learned Doctor of the law can come to the rescue it will be had, and next the heart at that. Many deluded ones expect that miracles will be performed, that blood can be had from a turnip, that it is only necessary to place the power in the hands of Messrs. Holden and Squeezem and it must come.
