Since our last it was discovered that there was a quantity of goods purchased at Baltimore for this place, and, on farther enquiry, they were found to belong to William Wells and Thomas Cummins, shopkeepers in the second street. They were immediately sent for by the committee, where, after some time deliberately refusing to comply with what was advised them by the committee, they agreed so far as to send the goods (amounting to £600.) back to Baltimore, which are gone accordingly; but as yet they peremptorily refuse making any concession to the publick for the attempt offered to infringe the non importation agreement entered into by the merchants of this city, as the committee advised them.
As henceforward there will be a strict watch kept, any person who shall hereafter be found out in such base practices will probably be more hardly dealt with.
