On Saturday last we had the pleasure of attending one of the most agreeable and sociable pic-nics that we ever before witnessed, made up of the members and friends of the Union Sabbath School at this place.
The children assembled at the church at about 9 o'clock, where a hymn was sung and a short address made by Rev. W. H. Crawford, who loves to mingle with and contribute to the happiness of the young, and the bright eyed little ones showed from their actions that they highly appreciated the speech, and, doubtless, they will never forget the impressions made upon their minds on the occasion.
At the conclusion of the speech, a procession was formed, with the Banner in front, and moved to the grove in front of Mr. Biggs', when the children scattered, and all seemed determined to make it a successful affair. The time flew by on fleet wing as the children, young ladies and young gentlemen, engaged in the varied pastimes that make up a good pic-nic.
Near 12 o'clock Col. H. B. Yearwood was requested to announce dinner, and invite all present to partake of the viands spread, which was done in pic-nic style and to sum up all in one word, this, the eating department, was superb, and it could not be otherwise when it is considered that the ladies (the fairest works of creation) had taken the matter in hand.
We congratulate one and all upon the splendid management of the whole affair and wish that we could have the pleasure of attending many more of the same kind of pic-nic's.
At a late hour in the evening the crowd dispersed, and we are pleased to state that all present during the day expressed themselves as being well pleased and having enjoyed the occasion beyond their most sanguine expectation.
