PRELIMINARY HEARING ON IN JUSTICE COURT

The preliminary hearing of the case wherein the state of Nevada is proceeding against C. R. Squires, Winnemucca merchant, charged with having bought a slaughtered steer without requiring the seller to exhibit to him the hide, is on this afternoon in Justice James Ritchie's court. Mr. Squires was arrested Tuesday evening by Sheriff G. W. Brady on a complaint sworn to by Chief of Police K. G. Lamb.

Under a statute enacted by the 1921 legislature the sin of omission by the tradesman in regard to requiring the hide as well as the carcass of a slaughtered animal is denominated a gross misdemeanor and such cases are tried in the district court.

Inasmuch as this afternoon will be consumed in taking testimony and a part of tomorrow in transcribing the reporter's notes, Justice Ritchie's decision will probably not be issued for a day or two.
