Monday, April 29.
THE House went into a committee of the whole on a bill supplementary to, and making alterations in an act for the relief of persons imprisoned for debt; when, after considerable discussion, and adopting several amendments, it was again recommitted to a select committee. The bill from the Senate to authorize the President of the United States to Cause to be purchased or built a number (not exceeding ten) of small vessels, to be equipped as galleys, or otherwise, for which it is proposed to appropriate 80,000 dollars, was committed to the committee of the whole on the state of the Union: and that committee was discharged from the further consideration of the bill authorizing a provisional army, and it was referred to the committee for the protection of commerce and the defence of the country, to report such alterations and amendments therein as they shall think proper.
