BOSTON, AUG. 24.
MILITARY.
It is said that there have been nearly 1,000 applications to the Secretary at War for commissions in the army now eligible— it is contemplated to raise a permanent army of only 12,000, a correspondent hopes, and as the applicants cannot all be officers, that those who may be disappointed, will show their patriotism, and give strong evidence of their zeal and attachment to the government, by entering the service, as non-commissioned officers and privates. They have a striking example.
