It appears the Albany Argus has given in, as it respects the time of holding the National convention, and abandons the proposition to assemble in Nov. '43. It now says:
"The recommendation—adopted in Massachusetts and Maryland, with unanimity—that the National Convention be held in the spring of 1844, and that the choice of delegates be by districts, will, we no doubt, be freely acquiesced in by the Democracy of this state, and probably of the States generally."
The Charleston Mercury in commenting on the above, has the following remarks:
"We may therefore consider it definitely settled, by general consent, that the Convention shall be held in May, 1844, and that the Delegates shall be chosen by Districts. There remains but one point of difference—the vote per capita or by States. 'The stand which has been taken in favor of the independent vote of each Delegate, is so manifestly part of the one proposition, that the Convention is called for the purpose of fairly expressing the will of the people, that we cannot doubt that the Democratic party will, on that as on other points, take the popular side. They cannot take any other without betraying their own cause and surrendering their own power."
MICHIGAN. A large Democratic convention held at Detroit Michigan has nominated Mr Calhoun to the Presidency, and recommends a National Convention to be held in the spring or 1844, to make a final decision on the candidates.
