Above will be found the proposition of C. M. Weaver, recent candidate on the Socialist ticket of Scott county for representative. He refers to the hand-bills posted on the night before election at Commerce.
I have not seen any of these circulars, but am told they were printed with a red heading something like "Socialist Co-Operative Association" and urged the Socialists to "get even" with K. L. Buck for fighting the Kicker, so as to be distributed. Yet both the Democrats and Republicans appeared very indignant and denounced it as a "dirty trick."
Well, it was a "dirty trick."
And let us see who played it. The voters have been deceived long enough by what they consider "clean men." Will Mr. Buck or Mr. Carnell, chairman of the Republican committee agree to an honest investigation? If not, everyone is shielding and fooling the voters after the election to lightly treat good men? The truth can be easily ascertained.
Are you ready?
The Kicker offers $100 for evidence to prove that he even had an inkling of the existence of those circulars, and I am willing to be examined under oath in the fullest investigation. Will the Democrats make a similar proposition? Watch and see.
Why should I single out Mr. Buck as the man fighting the Kicker? He has not fought the Kicker any harder than the other candidates--for all were and did their best. Why were circulars distributed only in Democratic townships?
ARE YOU AT WORK?
What are you doing to swell the circulation of the Kicker? Get every subscriber you can secure for the Kicker now. Things are apt to develop into a list voter by spring. It is the cheapest and least expensive way to mix Socialists. The people need to know something about Socialism--if it can be shown. And the Kicker will show them.
This year that will soon close the Kicker will show its readers who owns Scott county, how little taxes those few pay on it compared with the many and party owners, and how the county government is run in the interest of those owners--just as the national government is run in the interest of the national owners. This information alone will be worth the price of a year's subscription.
No citizen can afford to be without the Kicker during the coming year--and every Socialist should see that it is placed in every worker's house. The worker is the sucker that "pays the freight" and we want to get him to see how he is being skinned.
Some activity is already evident but more is needed. If every friend of the paper does a little it will all amount to a great deal in the aggregate.
Let every subscriber resolve to get another before New Year. You can do this if you only try.
We want to make sure of sending a Socialist to the state legislature from Scott county in 1912 and the time to begin the work is now. Let Scott county go down in history as first to send a working class representative to the Missouri assembly--for we are making history.
