Newnan Man Avenged Whipping Given Daughter, He Tells Authorities After Arrest
Newnan, August 21.—John W. Minter, who was arrested here several days ago charged with the murder of Millard Trouten, his son-in-law, confessed last night that he fired the shots that ended Trouten's life. The crime was the outgrowth of a beating said to have been given Minter's daughter, Mrs. Trouten, by her husband, from whom she was separated.
The confession, the police said, implicated but one of Minter's four sons and three sons-in-law together with W. M. Feltman, whom the police said Minter told them, figured in the plot by consenting to go to Trouten's home to get him to go for a walk for the purpose of allowing the Minters to kidnap him.
Those now being held besides Feltman and Minter are Ben, Johnny, Jeff and Grady Minter sons of John Minter, I. L. Goodrum, B. F. Weldon and Claude Washington, sons-in-law.
Ben Freeman, who is also being held, was not implicated in Minter's confession, the police said, it being contended Freeman joined Feltman while the latter was on his way to the Trouten home to perform his decoying mission.
Minter, in his confession, said that he had sent five bullets into Trouten's body while members of his family held their kinsman in a woods near this place a fortnight ago. Later he with the assistance of his sons and in-laws, he threw the body into a creek. About one week ago the body of Trouten was found floating in the shallow waters of the stream.
